Altroz vs. i20 vs. Polo TSI Comparison
When it comes to comparing hatchbacks, it can be challenging because you have an excellent range available. For example, if the Hyundai i20 is the perfect alternative to the Maruti Suzuki hatchbacks, the Tata Altroz is an excellent high-end hatchback with safety features. Similarly, the Volkswagen Polo TSI is a worthy competitor to the i20 and Altroz.Exterior Looks
The Tata Altroz comes in a range of exciting colors, with the Dark Edition becoming the toast of the town in recent times. The premium Cosmo Dark Colour adds to the intrigue factor and enhances the desirability quotient. The R16 alloy wheels with the dark tint finish offer an enchanting feel as it merges with the dark body hues. In addition, the premium dark chrome on the hood accentuates the appearance and makes it the ideal vehicle to have in your garage.
While the Hyundai i20 does not have any dark versions, it offers bright options with advanced features, making it the Indian Car of the Year 2021. The i20 exudes a charismatic appeal with its sensuous sporty design. The LED DRLs and headlamps make a premium statement as they offer greater visibility on the roads. In addition, the jewel pattern grille gives the i20 an aggressive and dynamic appearance.
The Volkswagen Polo offers perfect competition to the Altroz and the i20 with its admirable exterior features. The vehicle gets a new headlamp that looks stylish and offers more visibility on the road. Furthermore, the chrome additions on the front bumper and the new alloy wheels make this car perfect to attract customers with its brand new looks.

Interiors and Comfort
The Tata Altroz Dark is a stylish vehicle both from the exteriors and the interiors. The premium granite black interior theme exudes style and sophistication to enhance your overall experience. The premium tri-arrow design on the leatherette seats brings out your refined taste into the open. The Altroz comes equipped with iRA connected car technology with 27 connected car features to make a forceful statement.
While the i20 comes with excellent interior trims and matching upholstery, the technological features in the vehicle attract you the most. The digital cluster with a TFT Multi-information display provides the right information for the driver to ensure a safe drive. The tilt and telescopic steering enable manual adjustment to suit ideal driving positions. The electric sunroof is an excellent addition to the i20.
The Volkswagen Polo TSI interior with upgraded silver trim and steering wheel adds to its smartness and makes the car look luxurious. The comfortable seats support the passenger’s spine perfectly. Features like keyless entry, climate control, cruise control, and a front centre armrest with rear AC vents add to the overall comfort.
Engine and Performance
The Tata Altroz offers three engine types, depending on the fuel it uses. The 1.2L Revotron petrol engine offers a maximum power of 86ps @ 6000rpm and peak torque of 113Nm @ 3300rpm. On the contrary, the 1.2L turbo petrol engine offers 110ps power and 140Nm torque. Finally, the 1.5L Revotorq diesel engine delivers 90ps power and 200Nm torque. These engines work seamlessly with a 5-speed manual transmission to deliver excellent mileage.
The i20 runs on a 1.0L GDi petrol that offers 120ps power and 17.5kgm torque while proving that it is no slouch compared to the Altroz and the Polo TSI. Moreover, the i20 offers manual and iMT systems. The intelligent MT system delivers a clutch pedal-free drive for a thrilling driving experience. Besides, the i20 offers 7-speed DCT, an advanced system that uses automated clutch operation and gear shifting using two clutches.
The Volkswagen Polo TSI runs on a 1L TSI 3-cylinder in-line engine that offers 109bhp power and 175Nm torque. The Polo works on a front-wheel-drive powertrain and offers a decent 18.6kmpl mileage performance. Besides, the Polo’s 1.5L diesel engine offers an exciting option.
Ride, Handling, and Safety
The Tata Altroz is amongst the safest hatchbacks as it comes with ALFA architecture that offers comprehensive safety to help the Altroz achieve a 5-star Global NCAP rating. The ALFA architecture absorbs the impacts and ensures the absolute safety of its passengers. The high-quality braking system prevents the wheels from locking up during panic braking situations. EBD and CSC ensure that the driver has complete control of the vehicle in adverse driving conditions. The Altroz offers dual airbags as a standard offering on all variants.
The Hyundai i20 comes with advanced safety features such as six airbags to provide the highest levels of protection to all its passengers. Features like ESC, VSM, and ESS provide the right peace of mind to the driver and other occupants. The emergency stop signal helps avoid rear-end collisions. ISOFIX child seat anchorage, rearview camera, and the DRVM that allow the driver to get a rear side view without engaging the reverse gear, are excellent safety features to have in a hatchback.
The Volkswagen Polo TSI does not lag in providing excellent safety features as it offers airbags in all its variants. Other excellent features include ABS, engine immobilizer, rear parking sensors, central locking, child safety lock, seat belt warning, rear fog lamps, and headlamp beam adjuster are available on all variants. In addition, the top-end versions include rear wipers, front fog lamps, cornering lights, and rain-sensing wipers to offer high-quality safety features.
CarBike360 Says
While the features are almost similar in all these three brands, the pricing could be the deciding factor. The Altroz starts from Rs 5.85 lakhs and goes up to 9.36 lakhs for the top-end XZ+ Dark variant. The i20 pricing starts from Rs 6.91 lakhs, with the top-end Astra (O) DCT coming at Rs 11.40 lakhs. Finally, the Volkswagen Polo TSI is competitive in pricing, with the base model available at Rs 6.26 lakhs and the top-end version at Rs 9.99 lakhs.
When it comes to safety, the Tata Altroz top-end versions are the best equipped. However, Mileage-wise, the i20 should be the ideal choice, whereas the Polo TSI is the most stylish of the three. Hence, you have a great choice to make.
