Alto vs. S-Presso Comparison

The Maruti Suzuki Alto is the most favoured hatchback amongst all vehicles in its segment in India. The Maruti Suzuki Alto carries forward the Maruti Suzuki 800 tradition to rule the Indian roads to qualify as the preferable budget hatchback in India for a long time.

The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso has a unique design as it is a hatchback with an SUV design. Though the vehicle does not have high ground clearance, it has a tall boy image because of its heightened body structure.

Exterior Looks

The Maruti Suzuki Alto takes great pride in its design, with the elegant new grille and sharp headlights introducing a fresh appeal to the newly-designed hatchback. The new bumper and the side fence enhance the look and take it to a different level. The bold new grille provides the ideal airflow into the engine to keep it cool. The stylish headlamps with the side turn indicators add to the overall beauty. The body-coloured ORVMs and the rear tail lamps accentuate the looks further. The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, with its mini-SUV looks, has a commanding presence amongst other hatchbacks. This vehicle comes in six exciting colour options to enhance the attraction quotient. The twin-chamber headlamps sit high on the frontal fascia and provide the ideal illumination for the driver. The body-coloured bumpers and ORVMs add to the attraction and make this vehicle look grand. The flared wheel arches carry forward the SUV looks to make the vehicle seem imposing.

Interior and Comfort

The stylish dual-tone interiors are the highlights of the Maruti Suzuki Alto. Though the driver seat is a bit low, there is not much anyone can do about it because of the car’s small size. The new Alto comes equipped with a new speedometer design that looks pleasing to the eye. The 17.78cm touchscreen infotainment system allows you to multitask as you can listen to your favourite songs, take phones, and connect your USB drives. The vinyl upholstery adds to the comfort.

The S-Presso maintains its reputation as a tall-boy vehicle by offering sufficient space in the boot to place your luggage comfortably. This vehicle offers the best legroom among all hatchbacks from Maruti. The driver seat is at an ideal height to give the driver a commanding position on the road. This vehicle has a uniquely positioned instrument cluster that puts you in total control of your drive. The Smartplay Studio allows customisation to let you take maximum advantage.

Engine and Performance

The Maruti Suzuki Alto comes with a spirited engine with a displacement capacity of 796cc and delivers maximum power of 35.3kW @ 6000rpm and torque of 69Nm at 3500rpm. Moreover, this engine works with a 5-speed MT to deliver a decent driving performance. Besides, the Alto offers a CNG variant that comes with factory-fitted S-CNG technology to get the maximum out of your drives.

The S-Presso draws its power from a peppy 1.0L K10B Engine to ensure a spirited performance and a high-quality driving experience. This BS6-compliant engine delivers the power of 50kW @ 5500rpm and maximum torque of 90Nm @ 3500rpm. The engine pairs with a 5-speed manual transmission system.

Ride, Handling, and Safety

The Maruti Suzuki Alto is a budget hatchback, and hence you cannot expect high-quality safety features. However, it comes fitted with mandatory dual airbags for safety. In addition, ABS with EBD ensures enhanced safety when braking under challenging conditions. Other safety features include driver and co-passenger seatbelt reminders, smart reverse parking sensors, and rear door child lock.

The S-Presso comes with multiple safety features that include a Heartect Platform to absorb all impacts due to collisions. The ABS with EBD enables smooth braking, whereas the rear parking sensors allow you to comfortably park the vehicle in tight corners. In addition, the S-Presso features dual airbags to protect the driver and front-seat co-passengers from severe injuries from impact due to collisions.

CarBike360 Says

The Maruti Suzuki Alto is the most performing hatchback, with the CNG engine delivering excellent mileage of 31.59km/kg and the petrol engine, 22.05kmpl. Moreover, it is amongst the most affordable vehicles, with prices starting from Rs 3.00 lakhs and going up to Rs 4.70 lakhs.

The Maruti S-Presso is comparatively expensive, with its lowest-priced variant available at Rs 3.78 lakhs. The top-end version comes at Rs 5.36 lakhs.

If you wish to have a budget hatchback, there is no better choice than the Alto. However, if you wish to enjoy the convenience of an SUV in a hatchback, the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso is a good option.
