Volkswagen has unveiled the all-new Tharu XR SUV, which is based on the Taigun platform. Initially, this SUV will be available only in China. The Tharu XR boasts fresh looks and a larger cabin. The SUV will come equipped with a 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine available in multiple states of tune.
Platform and Dimensions
- Platform: The Tharu XR is built on the emerging market-spec MQB A0 platform, which also underpins the Taigun, Kushaq, Slavia, and Virtus models in India.
- Wheelbase: Shares the same 2651 mm wheelbase as the India 2.0 models.
- Length: The Tharu XR measures 4,355 mm in length, making it longer than the 4,221 mm Taigun.
Exterior Design and Interior
- Exterior: While the doors and most body panels are similar to the Taigun, the Tharu XR features distinct front styling with new-look headlamps, grille, and front bumper.
- Rear Design: It includes dark-tinted connected tail lamps with transparent lenses, a larger rear bumper with contrast faux aluminum bits, and a more slanted rear tailgate compared to the Taigun's upright design.
The added length behind the rear wheel gives the Tharu XR a more proportional look.
While interior pictures have not been released, it is expected to be similar to the Taigun with some cosmetic differences and additional features. The configuration, whether it will be a five-seater with a larger boot or a six/seven-seater, remains unconfirmed.
Market Availability
- Initial Launch: The Tharu XR will be a China-only model initially.
- Manufacturing: The SUV is built by the SAIC-VW joint venture in China.
- India Launch: There is no current news on whether the Tharu XR will be introduced in India.
