The Tata Altroz Racer is yet another performance focused hatchback that stands in the league of the hot hatches like the on-sale Hyundai i20 N-Line, the discontinued VW Polo TSI and the long gone Maruti Baleno RS.

However, it will just be facing competition from the Hyundai i20 N-Line as its the only performance hatch that's currently on sale in India. Tata Altroz Racer Vs Hyundai i20 N-Line: Engine, Gearbox & Performance Specs

Both Tata Altroz Racer and Hyundai i20 N-Line come with turbocharged petrol engine. However, the i20 N-Line offers a 1 litre 4-cylinder engine with GDi (Gasoline Direct Injection) tech. Whereas the Altroz Racer gets a normal turbocharged 1.2 litre 3-cylinder engine.

On the transmission front, the i20 N-Line gets an option of a 6 speed manual gearbox or a 7 speed DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) Automatic. Whereas the Altroz Racer comes only with a 6 speed manual gearbox.

Coming to the performance aspect, the Altroz Racer's engine can produce 120 PS of max power and 170 Nm of max torque. Similarly, the i20 N-Line's engine generates 120 PS of max power and 172 Nm of max torque.

With the launch of the Tata Altroz Racer, the Hyundai i20 N-Line now has a true competitor in the performance hatch segment. Although both the cars come with comparable engines in terms of power and torque output, the i20 N-Line gets the 7 speed DCT whereas the Altroz Racer misses out on an automatic gearbox option.
