Skoda introduces the Kushaq Onyx 1.0 TSI AT, the most affordable automatic variant at Rs 13.49 lakh, featuring a 1.0-liter TSI engine and extensive safety features.
Key Highlights:
The Skoda Kushaq is a fierce competitor in the compact SUV segment in India and has received new editions and variants here and there to keep things fresh. Skoda is taking steps to enhance Kasha’s value proposition for buyers. In line with this strategy, the automaker has introduced the most affordable automatic variant to date, based on the popular Onyx trim level of the Kushaq.
Skoda introduced the Kushaq Onyx Edition in March 2023, positioning it between the base Active and Ambition trims. Initially, the Onyx Edition featured bold graphics and decals on the sides, which did not appeal to all buyers' tastes. However, Skoda has since removed these graphics, giving the Onyx Edition a more understated and cleaner appearance.
At launch, the Onyx Edition was exclusively offered with the 1.0L TSI engine, coupled with a 6-speed manual transmission. Fast forward to June 2024, Skoda has now introduced a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox option for the Onyx trim. With the addition of the automatic transmission, the Onyx variant now also comes equipped with paddle shifters.

The Onyx Edition stands out with its distinctive design elements and features. It comes equipped with Tecton wheel covers, lending a stylish touch to the exterior. The front fascia boasts Crystalline LED headlights, which incorporate integrated daytime running lights for enhanced visibility and a premium appearance.
On the inside, the Onyx Edition offers an automatic climate control system, which Skoda refers to as "Climatronic," ensuring a comfortable cabin environment. Additionally, the variant features premium textile floor mats adorned with the Onyx badge, adding a touch of exclusivity.
Further enhancing the Onyx Edition's unique identity are the scuff plates with the Onyx inscription, greeting passengers as they enter the vehicle. The Onyx badge also makes an appearance on the car's B-pillars, serving as a subtle yet distinctive accent.
These thoughtful details and appointments set the Onyx Edition apart, combining style and functionality to create a distinctive and elevated driving experience within the Kushaq lineup.
The Skoda Kushaq Onyx 1.0 TSI AT retains the same engine options as before. It is powered by a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine that produces 115 PS of maximum power and 178 Nm of peak torque. This engine is available with a 6-speed manual transmission and now, a 6-speed automatic transmission as well. The more powerful 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine, which generates 150 PS and 250 Nm and is paired with a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DSG gearbox, is not offered in the lower trims like the Onyx.In addition to its 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP, the Kushaq comes equipped with various safety features, including electronic stability control, ABS with EBD, multi-collision braking, hill hold control, traction control system, brake disc wiping, rollover protection, front, side and curtain airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, an anti-theft alarm, and rear parking camera and sensors.
Petr Janeba, the Brand Director of Skoda Auto India, commented on the new Kushaq Onyx automatic variant. He stated that the Onyx trim has been an important addition, offering good value like the Active base model combined with features from higher trims. This new Onyx automatic version was launched in response to customer demand for a more affordable automatic option. Janeba noted that with its attractive pricing, the Kushaq Onyx automatic is now the most affordable automatic vehicle in its entire segment. He stressed Skoda's focus on delivering a hassle-free ownership experience, getting closer to customers, and continually incorporating customer feedback as part of their growth strategy.
