With the increasing popularity of CNG cars, competitors such as Tata Motors and Hyundai are expanding their own CNG offerings. To stay ahead, Maruti Suzuki plans to introduce new features to its S-CNG cars. The factory-fitted S-CNG kits from Maruti already offer advantages that aftermarket kits cannot match.
Maruti’s S-CNG platform stands out for its performance, reliability, and safety. It includes a specialized injection system to maintain an optimal air-fuel ratio during combustion, ensuring consistent performance and improved fuel efficiency. Adjustments to the suspension and braking systems ensure these vehicles perform optimally across various terrains.
Safety features are a priority, with measures in place to prevent short circuits, leak-proof and corrosion-resistant CNG systems, and a micro switch to prevent the car from starting during refueling. Maruti’s CNG vehicles undergo rigorous testing for crashworthiness and durability.
Additional features include an auto switch for seamless transition between CNG and petrol, a CNG fuel level indicator, and an NGV receptacle for faster and safer refueling. Maruti’s CNG cars come with a comprehensive warranty, extendable up to five years.
A common drawback of CNG cars is the reduction in boot space caused by the large 55-60 litre CNG tanks. Tata Motors addressed this issue last year by introducing a dual-tank setup, with each tank holding 30 litres. This setup, first seen in the Altroz and now available in the Tiago, Tigor, and Punch, effectively maximizes boot space.
Following this trend, Maruti Suzuki is hinting at adopting a twin-tank system for its S-CNG platform. Maruti already employs a twin-tank configuration in its Super Carry LCVs, which use two 35-litre tanks positioned along the vehicle's length. This innovation could soon be applied to Maruti's passenger cars, potentially featuring dual tanks of 25-30 litres each, thereby optimizing boot space and relocating the spare tyre underneath.
Maruti Suzuki's commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction ensures its S-CNG platform remains at the forefront of the market. The expected introduction of new features, including the dual-tank setup, is set to enhance the appeal and functionality of Maruti's CNG cars, meeting the evolving needs of consumers.
