After years of spectating from the sidelines, Force Motors entered the daily use SUV segment with its Force Gurkha. Categorised as a Special Vehicle on the brand’s page this offroad SUV is a direct competition to some of its rivals like the Maruti Jimny and the Mahindra Thar.

Currently, the Force Gurkha is available only in 4x4 variants, which are priced significantly higher than the competition. The car comes in both 5-door and 3-door versions. But, the company has now decided to launch a 4x2 in the base variant. That brings a more affordable choice in this segment and competes with Mahindra's Thar. Work on this new model is underway, and a document approving the new variant has been leaked.

As seen in the document, Force Motors has got the approval for a new Variant named “Gurkha 4X2 BS VI FM 2.6 CR 2400 (3+D)”. The company is planning to launch the 4x2 variant in the 3-door Gurkha, while the 5-door Gurkha gets the 4x4 variant. After seeing the demand and customer attraction on the 4x2, Force Motors might decide to launch the 4x2 version of the 5-door Gurkha as well, if there is substantial demand.

Force Motors currently has only one engine in its portfolio, the FM 2.6 CR engine. This engine is also available across all the vehicles in the company’s portfolio. The engine makes 138hp (140 PS) of peak power and is coupled with a 5-speed gearbox.
