Hyundai has confirmed the launch of its first mass-market electric vehicle for India in January 2025, the Creta EV. Production is expected to commence by the end of 2024.
Currently, the Creta EV is undergoing extensive testing across different countries, and many test models have been spotted. The EV will share its electric motor with the new-generation Kona Electric available overseas. The motor will be powered by a 45kWh battery pack, producing about 138 hp and 255 Nm of torque.
Tarun Garg, CEO of Hyundai Motor India, said in a recent media call, "I think we are using all these learnings [from sales of the Ioniq 5 EV] and many more, because as you know, we are going to launch the first high-volume EV from Hyundai, early January 25."
To be produced in the Chennai plant, Creta EV will be in direct competition with the soon-to-arrive Tata Curvv EV and the anticipated Maruti’s eVX born-EV, which will be a midsize SUV expected to go on sale a little later in 2025.
