The eagerly anticipated BYD Seal is set to make its mark on the Indian electric vehicle (EV) market as bookings officially open. Scheduled for launch on March 5, the EV can now be reserved for a token amount of Rs 1 lakh, with deliveries expected to commence in April 2024.

In a bid to serve diverse consumer preferences, the BYD Seal will be available with two battery pack options in the Indian market: 61.4 kWh and 82.5 kWh. Offering further flexibility, customers can choose between rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive setups, ensuring a personalized driving experience. The WLTP-claimed range stands at an impressive 570 km, providing ample mileage for electric enthusiasts.
The Indian market will witness the BYD Seal in three distinct variants: Dynamic Range, Premium Range, and Performance. With a speculated ex-showroom starting price of Rs 55 lakh, the BYD Seal aims to capture a significant share of the premium EV segment.

The BYD Seal, designed for the Indian electric vehicle market, features compact exterior dimensions, measuring 4800 mm in length, 1875 mm in width, and 1460 mm in height. With a wheelbase of 2920 mm, the Seal achieves a balanced and agile stance on the road. Despite its smaller footprint, the Seal's thoughtful design ensures a comfortable and efficient use of space, making it an ideal choice for urban environments. These compact dimensions not only contribute to the car's maneuverability but also highlight its suitability for diverse driving conditions, making the BYD Seal an enticing option for those seeking a nimble and stylish electric sedan.
The BYD Seal provides 400 litres of boot space and a 50-litre front trunk, offering efficient storage solutions in a compact design for urban convenience.
The BYD Seal offers a versatile range of powertrain options, providing drivers with choices tailored to their preferences and driving needs. The electric motor configurations include a single electric motor with power outputs of 204 PS and 313 PS, while the top-tier variant boasts a dual electric motor system, delivering an impressive 560 PS. Torque figures align with the performance levels, ranging from 310 Nm to an exhilarating 670 Nm.
In terms of efficiency, the BYD Seal demonstrates its commitment to long-distance travel with a WLTC-claimed range that varies based on the battery pack. The 61.4 kWh option provides a commendable 460 km range, while the 82.5 kWh variant extends the reach to 570 km. Acceleration is another standout feature showcasing its dynamic capabilities. The 61.4 kWh model accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 7.5 seconds, the 82.5 kWh variant achieves it in 5.9 seconds, and the performance-oriented 82.5 kWh model accelerates swiftly in just 3.8 seconds.
To further enhance convenience, it incorporates fast charging capabilities, supporting DC fast charging of up to 150 kW. Notably, the 30% to 80% charge can be achieved in a swift 26 minutes, underscoring the Seal's commitment to reducing downtime and providing an efficient charging experience for its users.
The BYD Seal promises a host of features, including a rotating 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, two wireless phone chargers, an 8-way power-adjustable driver seat with memory function, a heads-up display, heated and ventilated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof.
In terms of safety, the BYD Seal prioritizes passengers with features such as 8 airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, hill hold assist, a 360-degree camera, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and a comprehensive suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) – encompassing adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, and auto emergency braking. Notably, the BYD Seal has secured a commendable 5-star crash test safety rating from both Euro NCAP and ANCAP.
With an expected starting price of Rs 55 lakh (ex-showroom), the BYD Seal positions itself as an accessible competitor to the BMW i4.
