Inauguration of the First Indian 2-Wheeler Industry Plant in Brazil

Bajaj Auto, the world's leading manufacturer of 2-wheelers and 3-wheelers, inaugurated its new manufacturing plant in Manaus, Brazil. It is the first manufacturing plant for the Indian 2-wheeler industry in Brazil. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Governor of the state of Amazon, along with other dignitaries, dealers, and business partners.

Production Capacity

The new facility, located at Av. do Turismo, nº 13.529 Bairro Tarumã, spans an area of 9,600 square metres. It is equipped with the latest manufacturing technology and has a production capacity of 20,000 units per year, operating on a single shift. The plant's strategic location in Manaus provides substantial fiscal benefits and proximity to supply chains and major transportation hubs.

Advanced Manufacturing Technology

The Manaus plant features advanced, automated production lines and integrated quality control systems. Multiple conveyor and transfer systems seamlessly connect various stages of manufacturing. Utilising the Protheus ERP system, operations are streamlined across manufacturing, supply chain management, finance, and HR. Initially, the plant will focus on manufacturing the popular Dominar models, with plans to introduce the Pulsar models later.

Rapid Completion and Certification

Construction of the plant began in June 2023, and it became production-ready within a year. The initial phase concentrated on sourcing, assembly, and testing of Dominar models, with plans to expand to additional product lines. The facility has achieved ISO certification for its production processes, underscoring the commitment to quality and operational excellence. Bajaj do Brasil has successfully integrated local suppliers and begun sourcing key motorcycle parts and components from within Manaus.

Future Prospects and Expansion

Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director of Bajaj Auto Ltd., expressed his enthusiasm at the inauguration:

"With the establishment of our own plant in Brazil, we have achieved a quantum shift in our local capability to fulfil demand. Our Dominar brand has received an outstanding reception since its launch 18 months ago. The new manufacturing capabilities will enable us to build a wider distribution network, introduce new products, and meet the growing expectations of our customers. This plant also signals our commitment to Brazil, to building an ecosystem of partnerships, and integrating further into the automotive industry. We are excited to be part of Brazil's growth story and look forward to a prosperous future here."

Bajaj do Brasil has plans to further expand the facility to accommodate an additional production capacity of up to 50,000 units per year.
